Beauty 101 for Airplane Travel!

  • Moisturize – Apply a heavier moisturizer (night creams are great) the night before you are going to fly. This will help increase hydration in your skin.  Helping your skin to fight the dehydrating effects of cabin pressure.
  • Don’t Forget Hand Cream– Never leave home without hand cream in your bag, and use it liberally throughout the trip.  This will not only keep your hands from drying out, it will help counter the effects of harsh soaps found in public restrooms.

  • Skip Foundation –  Wear only moisturizer. Before you land, add a tinted moisturizer before you land.
  • Mist With Mineral Water -To refresh makeup while traveling, never glob on more foundation or blush. Instead, use a mister of mineral water and add a dab of moisturizer.
  • Blot  Oily Skin -To keep oily skin from getting out of control while traveling, bring blotting papers or rice papers and pat as often as necessary.
  • Add Some Shimmer – Perk up a tired complexion with a soft shimmer powder or cream. Stroke it lightly on the tops of cheeks, bridge of the nose, and lips for an instant pick-me-up no matter how tired (or queasy) you feel. Apply just before landing.
  • Skip Long-Lasting Lipsticks –  They will only dehydrate and parch your mouth. Color your lips with several coats of a lip stain, let dry, then top with a clear gloss or lip balm. Reapply  throughout the trip. Apply lip balm liberally through out the trip.  Yes, your kisser gets dehydrated too!
  • Cool Down Puffy Eyes -To reduce under-eye puffiness after a long trip, put crushed ice in a washcloth and apply it under the eyes.  Do this when you get to your hotel or ask for ice from the flight attendant and wrap in a napkin.
  • Bring Eye Drops – They will lubricate and soothe eyes if you’re reading or watching a movie, and refresh and wake up your eyes if you nap.  The ones that take the red out can be used temporarily to reduce redness in a surprise white head on the plane.
  • Avoid Wearing Mascara & Eye Shadows – they can move around on your face as you sleep.
  • Avoid Bright Nail Polish– Skip the brightly colored nail polish when traveling. It chips too easily and leaves you looking unfinished.  Instead buffing and polishing nails or apply a neutral, sheer color or clear polish that won’t call attention if it does chip.
  • Keep Your Hands Off Your Face – To minimize breakouts while you’re on vacation avoid touching your skin while you travel (this is good practice in everyday life!) You can pick up any number of unknown bacteria that can result in any number of skin problems, as well as food residue (potato chip or fries anyone.)  If you’re going to apply makeup while you’re in transit, use an antibacterial hand wash, wipes, or hand sanitizer on your hands first.
  • Take Your Cleanser With You -If you can only take one skin care item from home, let it be your cleanser. An abrupt change in cleansers can disrupt skin’s acid balance (pH) and cause your skin to breakout.  Put your cleanser in small travel sized container.
  • Facial Wipes – Use to wipe makeup off if on a long flight and you want to get some sleep for a few hours and to refresh yourself when waking up.
  • Get Your Beauty Sleep – If you’re going to nap on the plane, dab some super-rich night cream around your eyes, wear a sleep mask, ear plugs, and neck pillow. They will help you look fresher and more relaxed when you wake by helping to give you better quality sleep with less interuptions.
  • Pack Your Beauty Products – in a see-through cosmetic pouch so you can see what you’re reaching for.
  • Manage Your Hair – To keep hair looking good keep a natural boar bristle brush (to prevent static in your hair), a great hat or scarf to hide the sins of plane hair and dry shampoo (it cleans and deodorizes hair and adds volume in your carry-on. It comes in shades to match or blend with your own hair color.)
  • Wet Ones Pocket-Sized Hand Wipes – multi-purpose product stain remover (in a pinch), antibacterial, alternative for “washing” your hands, wiping down the armrest.
  • Keep Your Teeth Clean -Colgate Wisps  –  These single-use mini teeth cleaners have a pick on one end to scrape any gunk out of the chompers. They don’t require water or spitting so you can brush your teeth without getting up.
  • Mini tissues – Compact packet of tissues always a must! So many uses!
