What is Sillage?

Sillage is the lingering smell of cologne or perfume, French for “wake”.  The wake of perfume that is left behind when a person is no longer in the room or same area that they once occupied.  It’s a term used by perfume enthusiasts to describe how close a fragrance stays to the skin. Does it stick to the body or does it diffuse, leaving behind a wafting aroma?
