Best Fairytale Movie Ever Made!

In my humble opinion, Beauty and the Beast  (French: La Belle et la Bête) a 1946 French romantic fantasy film; is the most magical fairytale ever produced!  When watching I get swept up into the subtle images and dreamscapes, hypnotic sounds and music, light in dialogue (French with English subtitles) the incomparable scenery, costumes and landscapes along with the impeccable acting makes the dialogue almost unnecessary.

“Children believe what we tell them, they have complete faith in us….I ask of you a little of this childlike simplicity, and to bring us luck, let me speak four truly magic words, childhood’s ‘Open Sesame.’
‘Once upon a time….'”

One of the most versatile artists of the 20th century, Cocteau had first sprung to prominence as a poet before establishing himself as a visual artist, dramatist and, eventually, filmmaker. It was Marais  (his lover) who suggested filming the classic fairy tale first set to paper in the 18th century by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The story had only been filmed once previously, in 1899.

Cocteau wanted to shoot the film in color, but there was little color stock available, so he had to settle for black and white. Even then, there were only scraps of film stock available and not always in the best condition. As a result, image quality varied from scene to scene, a problem he ultimately decided would add to the picture’s dreamlike qualities. He had to fight with cinematographer Henri Alekan to capture those qualities properly. Alekan wanted to use soft focus and only grudgingly acceded to Cocteau’s demands that the film be shot more crisply — in a visual style modeled in the art of  Vermeer (Girl with a Pearl Earring) and Gustave Dore (mainly worked in the medium of wood engraving) — to show the mystical qualities behind everyday things; Cocteau’s artistic vision.

Dita Von Teese Burlesque Star to Launch Lingerie and Perfume!

Hang on to your knickers!

Dita Von Teese aka The Queen of Burlesque is launching a lingerie line and perfumes on HSN! From the vintage-inspired lingerie sets ($25 to $45) to the fragrances ($75 a bottle).  “I thought HSN would be the perfect way to introduce my brand to the American woman, because my goal with these products is to bring glamour and refinement to women at an affordable price,” she said.  And she did just that by hand-picking eyelash laces and mixing scent notes in Paris herself, all while making sure the prices remained reasonable. Von Teese also wears all of the pieces she designed alongside those from her own very famous collection of lingerie.  “I spend exorbitant amounts of money on lingerie when I go shopping in Paris, and I think these pieces can really stand their own against the most expensive lingerie in the world,” she said. “I’m really proud of that fact.” And she has every right to be! Dita Von Teese’s American debut will be available on HSN and hsn.com starting April 23.

The seductive new scent is apparently an inviting combination of orange bergamot, pink pepper, Lapsang Souchong tea, magnolia, and raw amber. “I love the smoky smell of the Lapsang Souchong tea, which we combined with ambergris to create a voluptuous scent,” Von Teese said in a statement about Rouge.

To create her Old Hollywood-inspired scent. “I often thought about the great women that I admire like Marlene Dietrich or Hedy Lamarr—those sexy, glamorous, iconic women, and I couldn’t imagine them ever smelling like fruits or candy,” she said. “I wanted something that speaks of wanting to be grown-up, a sophisticated woman who is in charge of her life.” Von Teese’s scent is a seductive blend of Bulgarian rose and peony, with undertones of spicy Bourbon pepper and smoky wood.
