National Read A Book Day! The Skin Type Solution by Leslie Baumann

The Skin Type Solution by Leslie Baumann, M.D.

I am not of fan of this book for a few reasons.  This book has a questionnaire that helps you determine your skin type.  I am hesitant about the average person taking the questionnaire because they don’t have the experience that a Dermatologist or Esthetician have in determining skin types.  If you take the questionnaire and think you are answering correctly and you are not then you could come up with the wrong your skin type as your answer.  There is a big difference between combination skin and oily skin.

Also, I don’t like that she states that there are 16 skin types.

There are only five skin types:

Oily

Combination

Normal

Dry

Sensitive (can also be a skin condition)

Everything else is a skin condition, such as, pigmentation, wrinkles, acne, etc.

Her information on prescription products, facials, chemical peels, Retin-A, Botox, and Restylane injections is okay nothing new.

Just in time for National Book Lovers Day: Kevyn Aucoin’s Making Faces, a review!

First of all I love all of Kevyn Aucoin‘s books, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be, “Making Faces!”

A quick note note:  in the short time Kevyn Aucoin was on the makeup artistry scene before his passing; he made the kind of impact that most people take all there lives to make!  Some of his clients were:  Isabella Rosselini, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, Cher, Tina Turner, Vanessa Williams, and Julia Roberts.

This book has over 200 pictures and sketches alone!

His how to’s are phenomenal!  They are clear with pictures every step of they way.  He gives you not only everyday and glamorous looks, but how recreate famous celebrity looks as well!

This is a great resource not only for those new to makeup, but those looking for some fun new looks that need a little guidance.

Beauty Book Review: The Complete Beauty Bible by Paula Begoun

This book is great for learning about what the ingredients are in your cosmetics and skin care products and what they really do. It is excellent for helping you choose drug store versions of your favorite expensive brands. She helps you understand beauty myths with common sense. I like that she gives reviews of beauty products, although they are quickly outdated due to constant reformulations of products and new products coming onto the market. However you can go to her website, http://www.cosmeticscop.com/, which I highly recommend and get update reviews.

Beauty Book Review: Skin Rules: Trade Secrets From A Top New York Dermatologist by Debra Jaliman, M.D.!

Skin Rules:  Trade Secrets From A Top New York Dermatologist by Debra Jaliman, M.D.

This book is straight forward and to the point book .  Each chapter covers one skincare rule in about one to two pages.  While I wouldn’t call what she writes trade secrets she provides  factual and easy to understand information about skincare.  I like this book because while much of the information I already knew, every once and a while one of her skincare rules would surprise me.  Wow, I didn’t know that!

I think for most people this book would be worth the money to buy.  If you go to Amazon you can click and look inside the book to see if it is the book for you.
