If you want to wear orange or another bold color, such as red or Fuchsia but don’t feel brave enough to wear it at full strength:

Rub a warm wet wash cloth to your lips to remove any flakes. Then apply and blot lip balm, next buff in a circular motion the lipstick on with your fingertips. Make sure to stay within the lip line to Soften blot gentle after applying the lip balm on top of the lipstick.

If you want to wear the bold color at full strength:

Aagain use the washcloth followed by lip balm. Then apply the lipstick with a brush – it will stay on longer and look smoother. Lip Liner will help make the lipstick last longer. Start by lining the Cupid’s bow, bold and especially matte colors enable you to ‘cheat’ the lip line and achieve perfectly symmetrical lips (i.e. you can use the pencil onto your skin to make the lips look even) make sure not to go too far outside your lip line. Work from the middle section of your bottom lip, draw out from the Cupid’s bow, into the center of the lower lip and then to the corners of the mouth. Make any corrections from the application with a Q-tip, makeup remover, and if needed use concealer (make sure to blend the concealer out from the lip onto your skin blending well so as to not leave a line of concealer). Open your mouth and fill in the corners so you have a very clean professional finish. Then, fill in with lipstick using your lip brush make sure not too overload the brush with lipstick you can always put more on the brush as you go, too much on the brush can make making mistakes easier. To check symmetry, look in the mirror and tilt your head back. Mistakes will become apparent and you can fix them.

Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose Parfum Review!

Sea Fleur (630) and Peach Fuzz (417)

Launched in 2000, this feminine scent smells just like the name a rose scented lipstick like L’Oreal or Guerlain. A strong scent with rose and powdered candied violets with a touch of raspberry, musk, vanilla, vetiver, and amber. A little goes a long way and will last you all day. It starts strong then settles down a to a waxy finish which is not unpleasant and reminiscent of the fore mentioned lipstick. It is some how modern and nostalgic at the same time.

National Lipstick Day!!! What is your go to shade?

It always amazes me the the funny –  National “____” Days or Months that the United States comes up with sometimes!  I looked into it and it actually takes Congress to have these Days or Months to come into to being!  That takes some real dedication, but then we wouldn’t have National Lipstick or Princess Day so who am I too judge!

Here are some of my go to shades, which are great for all skin tones:

Funny Face by Nars

For when I need a little perking up and a bold jot of color.  If you are fair skinned try applying with a light hand.  Blot the color down as a stain or add a clear gloss for some shine.

Shanghai Express by Nars or Ruby Woo by MAC

For those of you looking for an all purpose red.

Lancome L’Absolu Rouge in Voile de Rose

The perfect pink pout!

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

Very berry, very sheer!

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Crazy For Coffee

A great brown!

Dolce Vita by Nars

A mauve for all occassions!

Chelsea Girls Lip Lacquer by Nars
A great nude!

What do men think of your lipstick color?

Vibrant retro reds. Blinding pinks. Glosses so shiny you can see your reflection. If you love experimenting with lip color and consider Nicki Minaj your makeup hero, how about taking a minute to consider what guys think of the latest addition to your makeup bag before you whip out that gloppy wand of vanilla-scented gloss? We asked Men’s Health Senior Contributing Editor Matt Bean for the male perspective on the varying shades of lipstick.

Classic red (as shown by Taylor Swift)

That’s a look-at-me color. An I-want-attention kind of color. If you’re at a bar with the girls looking to meet people, it can work as a beacon of sorts. If you’re on a date with your husband, it says that you’re really kicking it up a notch. On the other hand, you can’t kiss a girl with bright red lips or you end up looking like a clown.

Hot pink (as shown by Blake Lively)

It doesn’t have the classic romance of a bright red. It’s more punk, rock star, adventurous. It reminds me of “Jem and the Holograms”—in a good way. It says you’re not afraid of a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll. I would expect the girl to listen to good music and not just hang out at Ann Taylor.

Dark Purple/burgundy (as shown by Rooney Mara)

This says she’s not afraid to take risks. It tells me that she’s edgy and could be challenging in a good way. Not that she has a dark side, but that’s she’s. . . different. On the right woman, dark color is intriguing.

Neutral (as shown by J.Lo)

When you wear the lipstick that’s the same color as your skin, you look like a corpse, like you’ve been out in the cold too long. It’s disconcerting. Also, neutral lip gloss looks like a glazed donut.

Bright Orange (as shown by Kirsten Dunst)

It makes me think… “Wanna Fanta?’” And also that she’s got a spicy personality and is probably a lot of fun. Very confident. Not afraid to try something that’s different.

Metallic (as shown by the one and only Lady Gaga)

It’s a teenage thing, so if you’re “Sex in the City” age, you can come off a little trashy. Glitter should stay in the strip club. Practically, those sparkles end up everywhere.
