Essential Oil of the Month: Geranium!

Essential oils are the oils from the plants they were extracted from in concentrated form. Essential oils have been used in skincare, folk and alternative medicine, aromatherapy, cosmetics, soaps, perfumes, foods and drinks for centuries.

Geranium is a genus of 422 species of flowering annual, biennial, and perennial plants that are commonly known as the cranesbills.

Botanical Name:
Pelargonium graveolens

Note Classification:
Middle

Aroma: Heavy, sweet, floral

Geranium essential oil has a wonderfully uplifting, calming, powerful, leafy-rose aroma with fruity, mint undertones. It is excellent for the skin, and its aromatic influence helps release negative memories. Used traditionally to support the circulatory and nervous systems, a great deal of its strength lies in its ability to revitalize body tissues. This oil is one of the most important perfumery oils and is an important ingredient in all types of fragrances. Bourbon oil, from the island of Reunion, is considered the finest grade, and has the best staying power. It is used in skin care products for both its fragrance and its toning, cleansing properties.

Properties: Analgesic, antibacterial, antidepressant, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent, cicatrizant, deodorant, diuretic, emmenagogue, hepatic, insecticide, regenerative, rubefacient, sedative, styptic, tonic, vasoconstrictor, vermifuge, vulnerary

Benefits: Anxiety, broken capillaries, bruises, burns, circulatory disorders, cuts, diarrhea, fluid retention, insect bites, lymphatic congestion, sore throats, stabilize emotions, lcers, wounds. The emotional stabilizing properties of this oil can be used in many ways. Diffuse into the air, or make a room spray that you can spray as needed. You can also add a couple drops to a relaxing bath.

Blends Well With: Bergamot, chamomile, clary sage, clove, cypress, ginger, grapefruit, jasmine, juniper, lemon, mandarin, neroli, palmarosa, patchouli, peppermint, rose, rosemary, sandalwood, ylang ylang

Of Interest: Geranium leaves can be used in jams and jellies or added to your favorite baked goods.

Essential Oil should not be applied directly to the skin but in carrier oils, putting the oils directly on the skin is too harsh due to their concentrated form. Add a few drops of Geranium essential oil to the carrier oil.

If you are pregnant, receiving cancer treatment,or have a weakened immune system the use of essential oils is not recommended!

While essential oil will not go rancid, carrier oils can. Store your carrier oils in a cool, dry, and dark place.

Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose Parfum Review!

Sea Fleur (630) and Peach Fuzz (417)

Launched in 2000, this feminine scent smells just like the name a rose scented lipstick like L’Oreal or Guerlain. A strong scent with rose and powdered candied violets with a touch of raspberry, musk, vanilla, vetiver, and amber. A little goes a long way and will last you all day. It starts strong then settles down a to a waxy finish which is not unpleasant and reminiscent of the fore mentioned lipstick. It is some how modern and nostalgic at the same time.

Essential Oil of the Month: Basil!

Botanical name, Ocimum basilicum, of the mint family sometimes known as Saint Joseph’s Wort in some English-speaking countries.  Originally from India, is a half-hardy annual plant, best known as a culinary herb.  Depending on the species and cultivar, the leaves may taste somewhat like anise, with a strong, pungent, often sweet smell.  Basil Essential Oil has been referred to as ‘the royal oil’ to strengthen the mind and heart.

Recently, there has been much research into the health benefits conferred by the essential oils found in basil.   Basil has potent antioxidant, antiviral, antifungal, insect-repelling, antibacterial, antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, cephalic, digestive, emmenagogue, expectorant, febrifuge, nervine, stimulant, stomachic, tonic and antimicrobial properties.  Inhaling basil can refresh the mind and restores mental alertness, and may also sharpen your sense of smell. Useful for fatigued or aching muscles, rub a few drops onto tense areas for relief.  Helps with stings and bites.

Do not take the essential oil internally.

Essential Oil should not be applied directly to the skin but in carrier oils, putting the oils directly on the skin is too harsh due to their concentrated form. Add a few drops of basil oil to the carrier oil.

If you are pregnant, receiving cancer treatment, or have a weakened immune system the use of essential oils is not recommended!

While essential oil will not go rancid, carrier oils can. Store your carrier oils in a cool, dry, and dark place.

Crazy for Karma!

I love scents!  I have more soap, body washes, lotions, creams, powders, and perfumes than any one person should have.  I have been a fan of Lush products for years, but I have steadfastly ignored their very popular Karma line mainly because it is touted as being a hippie patchouli scent.  Well I finely broke down and bought the soap, figuring I could work my way through a bar of soap much faster than the perfume.  Consider me a patchouli convert after using Lush’s Karma soap!  I have now bought the cream and the perfume as well!  It is some how clean, fruity and spicy all at the same time with main notes of citrus, patchouli, and pine (yes, pine go and figure)! It is not heavy and coiling like many patchouli scents.  It is a great unisex fragrance that would appeal to both men and women.
